Rare & Special Wines

Unicorn Wine Design

There has been a term for rare and special wines over the years as folks, primarily sommelier’s, have used the term “unicorn wine” to describe such gifted and special wines. The term embodies the craftsmanship and art of winemaking that is so elusive in many of today’s wines, but is absolutely required for that rare and extraordinary wine. These unicorn wines are the kind of wines that are not mass produced but teased out of those grapes chosen by the winemaker, brutally processed to release its gifts, aged, and blended to enhance all of the potential that decades of root stock growth and perfect seasonal growing conditions can create.

What Makes a Unicorn Wine?

  • First, it has to exist in small quantities.
  • Second, it has to be hard to find.
  • Third, wine fans need to get really excited when they drink it, similar to maidens who come across unicorns in the wild.
  • It helps a lot if the winemaker was legendary and is now dead. No need to worry as we are all above ground and drinking wine regularly, but don’t hold that against us!
  • Additionally, if the wine is extremely old and/or from a region considered extremely cool by the sommelier crowd it could be perceived as a Unicorn Wine.
  • Cost of the wine is not important as it is more important that the wine be hard to find and have a certain coolness factor to it. Unicorns are cool!

Drink the wines that move you, with those you Love!

Why all the Unicorn Stuff:

The meaning of unicorn symbol is magic, mystery, romance, and positivity. … The unicorn is the most ambiguous and poetic of all beasts of fable.

Some of its meanings include chastity, purity, power, and virtue.

Both the pearly white unicorn of European lore and the benevolent Asian unicorn avoid contact with humans, preferring to remain unseen.

The first stories to mention unicorns date back to around 2700 BC… (But not nearly as old as the first known wine created by the people in South Caucasus around 6,000 BC) The early Unicorns would roam around what we now call Asia, although nowadays it’s said that unicorns tend to live in forests and are rarely seen by humans.

With its white horse-like body and single spiraling horn, the unicorn is a symbol of purity, innocence, and power in Celtic mythology. Legend also tells that their horns can purify poisoned water, such is the strength of their healing power.

Thus, my inspiration for the wine label. The healing powers of wine are widely known and with a sprinkling of Unicorn horn powder we could heal the world!
